MAYOR GIULIANI SIGNS BILL THAT EXTENDS THE SUNSET PROVISION OF LOCAL LAW 45 OF 1992, CONCERNING FAMILY DAY CARE, FOR A PERIOD OF TWO MONTHS, ENDING ON JUNE 30, 1999

-Remarks By Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani At Public Hearing On Local Laws-

The bill before me today is Introductory Number 534, a bill that extends the sunset provision of Local Law 45 of 1992, concerning family day care, for a period of two months, ending on June 30, 1999.

The extension of Local Law 45 provides the City with the ability to enhance State funding to ensure that publicly subsidized family day care homes continue to receive the required number of home inspection visits and any attendant technical assistance, support services, training, and monitoring. By maintaining these crucial functions, the extension enables the Administration to provide safe, affordable, quality day care for many of New York City's families.

For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
