Mayor Giuliani will serve as an honorary Chairperson of this year's event, which will take place at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts on May 28th. Arts for all Kids 1999 will feature interactive performances by disabled and non-disabled artists, including opera, ballet, jazz, classical music, modern dance, theater and contemporary music.
"Arts for Kids 1999 enriches the lives of our children -- especially children with disabilities -- by encouraging them to appreciate the performing arts and to discover their own artistic abilities," the Mayor said. "I commend all Arts for Kids 1999 sponsors and contributors for supporting this wonderful program."
At today's proclamation ceremony, the Mayor was joined by Frank López, Acting Executive Director of Sinergia, Inc.; Peter C. Williamson, Director of Communications of the Jewish Guild for the Blind; Mary Somoza, President of the Board of Directors of Sinergia; Andre Mirabelli, Senior Vice President of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts; Thomas Kane, Vice President and General Manager of WABC TV; Jorge E. Cano, Publisher of Urban Latino Magazine; Cliff Love, Director of Community Services of WABC TV; Javier Romero, Arts for All Kids' poster designer; and Lourdes López, former Prima Ballerina for the New York City Ballet; Mary McFadden, and children who will participate in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts clebration.
Acting Executive Director of Sinergia Frank López said, "At this time we would like to invite corporations, foundations and the nonprofit community to demonstrate their support to children with disabilities by participating in our Arts for All Kids 1999 celebration that has no parallel in the world."
The Arts for All Kids 1999 is expected to draw 5,000 participants, mostly children with disabilities from public and private schools, friends, family members, voluntary agencies and celebrities.
