MAYOR GIULIANI AND ACS COMMISSIONER SCOPPETTA THANK THE NEW YORK METS AND THE CHASE MANHATTAN BANK FOR SUPPORTING BASEBALL IS FOR KIDS PROGRAM

125,000 Tickets Donated To Area Youth Organizations

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Administration for Children's Services (ACS) Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta today thanked The New York Mets and The Chase Manhattan Bank for donating 125,000 Mets tickets to local area youth organizations, 10,000 of which will go to foster children under the supervision of ACS. This donation marks the second season of The Chase Manhattan Bank's Baseball is for Kids program. Last year the bank donated 70,000 tickets to youth organizations throughout the metropolitan area.

In accepting the tickets, the Mayor thanked The Chase Manhattan Bank and The New York Mets for their continuing commitment to New York City's children. "For the second year in a row the Baseball is for Kids program will allow children from across the City the opportunity to enjoy major league baseball," said Mayor Giuliani. "The 10,000 tickets generously donated to the Administration for Children's Services will allow these children to see their baseball heroes in action and enjoy the excitement of Mets baseball. This program is a great example of how corporate partnerships can benefit our City's children and I commend The Chase Manhattan Bank and The New York Mets for their continued support."

The Mayor was joined by New York Mets President Fred Wilpon and The Chase Manhattan Bank Executive Vice President and Director of Corporate Marketing and Communications Frederick Hill for today's announcement at Shea Stadium. Also on hand were, Mets Manager Bobby Valentine, Mets Coach Mookie Wilson, and Mets third baseman Robin Ventura who conducted a baseball clinic for the children attending today's announcement.

Frederick Hill, Executive Vice President and Director of Corporate Marketing and Communications for The Chase Manhattan Bank, said, "Chase is dedicated to making a difference in communities throughout the New York metropolitan area, and the Chase Baseball is for Kids program provides us with a chance to build relationships with thousands of New York City youth. Most of us remember going to our first professional baseball game, and through this program Chase is thrilled to provide the opportunity for many of these kids to attend their first major league baseball game and to help create their first baseball memories."

Fred Wilpon, New York Mets President, said, "By hosting the Chase Baseball is for Kids program for the second consecutive year and significantly increasing their ticket commitment to the youth of New York City, Chase once again has demonstrated their leadership role as a positive influence in the lives of many less fortunate children. The Mets thank and commend them for their generosity."

ACS Commissioner Scoppetta said, "Baseball is one of the things that make childhood such a magical time. Thanks to The Chase Manhattan Bank and The New York Mets, 10,000 foster children will experience the joys of a day at a major league ballpark-an opportunity many of them might otherwise not have. On behalf of all the kids who will soon experience the thrill of baseball, I thanks The Chase Manhattan Bank and the Mets for continuing their commitment to our children through this generous gift."
