MAYOR GIULIANI PROCLAIMS "BRONX DOMINICAN PARADE WEEK"

Acknowledges Dominican Achievements and Contributions to New York City

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today proclaimed "Bronx Dominican Parade Week" in New York City and acknowledged the many contributions made by Dominicans to the City of New York. The proclamation was presented to Parade President Felipe Febles during a ceremony at City Hall.

Also in attendance were the Assistant Director of the Bronx Dominican Day Parade Rosa Ayala, the Parade's Grand Marshall David Rivas and other distinguished members of the Dominican Community.

"I am delighted to salute the tenth annual Bronx Dominican Parade organizers as they pay tribute to their cultural heritage and promote the unity and advancement of Dominicans in New York City," Mayor Giuliani said. "As the New York City's Dominican community celebrates its achievements and prepares for its future, the entire City should recognize the contributions Dominican men and women have made to the fiber of the City of New York," Mayor Giuliani said.

This year the parade celebrates the 155th anniversary of the independence of the Dominican Republic and honors Juan Pablo Duarte, a hero and patriot who led the movement for independence with the patriotic slogan "Dios, Tierra y Libertad" (God, Country and Liberty).

The tenth annual Bronx Dominican Parade will be held on Sunday, July 18th, 1999 along the Grand Concourse in The Bronx.
