Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced that, according to employment figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor, New York City is on pace to equaling last year's record employment gain when the City created over 77,000 private sector jobs. In June the City's private sector employment increased by 6,100 jobs and since last June the City's private sector employment is up 75,400 jobs, a 2-½ percent increase.
"New York City's success in creating new jobs continues," said Mayor Giuliani. "Once again we are on a record pace to having the strongest private sector job growth in more than 40 years - when records were first kept. Since the first of this year the City has created almost 40,000 new private sector jobs and over 320,000 new private sector jobs since December 1993 - a reversal of the prior administration when the City experienced a loss of over 320,000 jobs. New Yorkers should be proud to know that New York City's job creation success continues."
