MAYOR GIULIANI ISSUED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT ON THE
DEATH OF JIM "CATFISH" HUNTER
"Baseball Hall of Famer Jim Catfish Hunter was one of the greatest baseball players of our day. He pitched in five World Series -- two with the Yankees -- won the Cy Young Award, and pitched a perfect game - an accomplishment only 13 other pitchers have achieved in modern baseball history.
He was also a fine man who uplifted his teams and gave them an extra degree of class and morale. The loss of Catfish will be felt by Yankee fans past and present, and by all baseball fans. He will always be remembered as a true Yankee great."
