MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES CITY ON PACE FOR STRONGEST JOB GROWTH IN CITY'S HISTORY

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced that, according to employment figures released by the New York State Department of Labor, New York City created an additional 5,500 jobs in September. Since January, the private sector has added 65,000 jobs, continuing on its pace to surpass last year's record private sector job growth, when the City created a total of 77,400 private sector jobs.

"The great news for New York City continues," said Mayor Giuliani. "At the current rate of job creation in the City we can expect to surpass last year's record job growth, in which the City experienced its strongest private sector job growth since records were first kept 40 years ago. Since the first of the year, the City has created 65,000 new private sector jobs. These latest figures further demonstrate our City's strong economy and its ability to create more jobs. With the creation of 345,000 new jobs since January 1994, the City's economic renaissance continues. Today's news reaffirms the fact that New York is the City people throughout the world turn to for leadership as the Capital of the World."
