How do I get a copy of a property record or deed?

PROPERTY RECORDS FROM 1966 TO PRESENT

Online:

You can get a certified or uncertified copy of a property record or deed dated from 1966 to the present for through the Automated City Register Information System (ACRIS).

Through ACRIS, you can:
        • Request a certified copy by mail
        • Request an electronic certified copy by email
        • Print an uncertified copy

Copies will be mailed to the address you provide.

Payment for certified copies must be made online when you make the request. There is no charge for uncertified copies printed from a personal computer.

If a document for a Staten Island property is not available in ACRIS, visit Office of the Richmond County Clerk for additional information.

In-Person:

For all boroughs except Staten Island, you can go to any Borough City Register Office.

For Staten Island, you must visit the office of the Richmond County Clerk. You can get more information from the land record search page online on the Office of the Richmond County Clerk website.

PROPERTY RECORDS PRIOR TO 1966

Online:

You can request a certified or uncertified copy of property records dated before 1966 through the Department of Finance website.

In-Person:

For properties in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens, visit the City Register Office in the borough where the property is located.

For properties in Brooklyn, visit the Queens City Register Office to view Brooklyn property record books. If you have the Liber/Reel and page, date recorded, type of document, and number of pages, you may also visit the Brooklyn City Register Office for microfilm records.

For properties in Staten Island, visit the office of the Richmond County Clerk. The Richmond County Clerk’s office only accepts cash payment. You can get more information from the land record search page on the Office of the Richmond County Clerk website.

COST

Certified copies cost $4 per page. Uncertified copies printed at a City Register Office cost $1 per page. There is no charge for ACRIS copies printed from a personal computer.

Borough City Register Offices are open Monday through Friday, except on Public Holidays.
