About
Motor Vehicles, Department of State
Driving schools must have a license from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Licenses allow schools to provide behind-the-wheel and classroom instruction. Schools can provide the DMV-approved Pre-Licensing Course. The license allows schools to act as a Private Service Bureau to help new drivers get licenses.
