About

Environmental Protection, Department of City
Businesses that will discharge industrial wastewater must comply with the Sewer Use Regulations established in Title 15 of the Rules of the City of New York (RCNY) Chapter 19. Different types of industrial wastewater discharge are associated with different requirements. Please refer to CFR Title 40, Parts 400 to 610, linked below under Additional Information to learn which businesses must obtain an industrial wastewater discharge permit before discharging wastewater to New York City’s public combined and/or sanitary sewers. Please note that businesses discharging an average of 25,000 gallons per day or more of process wastewater may also need to obtain a discharge permit regardless of the type of industry in which they operate.
