Laboratories that only do certain clinical tests can register as Limited Service Laboratory. Laboratories register with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

These laboratory facilities include:
  • Hospital extension clinics;
  • Nursing homes;
  • Home health care agencies;
  • School/student health services;
  • Dialysis facilities;
  • Ambulatory (out-patient) surgery centers;
  • County health departments;
  • Correctional facilities;
  • Ambulance/rescue squads; and
  • Other direct patient care facilities.
Eligible tests include:
  • Wet mounts;
  • Potassium hydroxide preparations;
  • Pinworm examinations;
  • Fern tests;
  • Post-coital direct, qualitative mucus examinations;
  • Urinalysis;
  • Fecal leukocyte examination;
  • Semen analysis; and
  • Nasal smears.
Laboratories managed or owned by more than one organization are included.
