Mayor de Blasio Appoints Naomi Zauderer to Campaign Finance Board

NEW YORK­––Mayor de Blasio today announced the appointment of Naomi Zauderer to the New York City Campaign Finance Board, an independent and non-partisan agency that administers one of the strongest, most effective campaign finance systems in the country.

“The Campaign Finance Board ensures that candidates and their campaigns are held accountable for using public funds, serving the best interests of New Yorkers,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “I’m confident that Naomi Zauderer will utilize her 19 years of experience in union organizing, and her three years of policy advocacy on behalf of low-wage and nonstandard workers while on the Board to continue to serve New Yorkers.”

Naomi Zauderer is the Associate Executive Director of the Professional Staff Congress at CUNY, a role she has held since 2008. She has more than 19 years of experience in union organizing, collective bargaining and contract administration across a number of fields. As Board Member, Zauderer will be responsible for overseeing the work of the agency, make public funds and penalty determinations, issue advisory opinions and adopt rules. She was appointed to the Board on February 27, 2016, and will serve a five-year term ending in November 2020. Zauderer succeeded Courtney Hall, whose term ended on November 30, 2015. He was appointed to the Board in July 2010 by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

About Naomi Zauderer:
From 2002 to 2008, Naomi Zauderer served as the Executive Director of the New York Professional Nurses Union where she participated in negotiating the 2003 and 2006 collective bargaining agreements, and coordinated contract administration, including grievance handling and preparing for arbitration. Prior to NYPNU, Zauderer worked at the National Employment Law Project and with UAW Locals 1981 and 2165 ­– the National Writers Union and the Association of Graduate Student Employees – where she won union recognition for readers, tutors and acting instructors and negotiated Local 2165’s first contract. She earned a B.A. in Government from the College of William and Mary, and she is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley.
About the Campaign Finance Board

The Campaign Finance Board administers the City’s landmark Public Campaign Finance program, which matches small contributions raised by candidates with public funds. The CFB enforces the City’s campaign finance law and provides public disclosure of campaign finances from candidates and outside groups. The CFB also publishes a non-partisan Voter Guide for each regularly scheduled City election and administers the debate program for candidates for citywide office.
