NEW YORK—Mayor Bill de Blasio today announced that the Empire State Building Observatory will open as a COVID-19 vaccination site beginning Friday, June 18th...
“Our vaccination effort is reaching new heights,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “It’s the summer of New York City’s recovery thanks to our lifesaving vaccines and legendary landmarks. Now you can head to the Empire State Building to get vaccinated and make memories you’ll never forget.”
“We’re grateful for our partnership with the Empire State Building and the opportunity to offer this life-saving vaccine at such an iconic New York City landmark,” said Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Melanie Hartzog. “Families can make this an occasion they’ll never forget – take in the view of this incredible city as they take their first step to protecting everyone against this virus.”
Individuals 12 years and older can receive their first dose of the Pfizer on the 80th floor of the Empire State Building for three consecutive weekends: June 18-20, June 15-27, and July 2-4 from 8:00 AM - noon. Second-dose appointments will be made on-site. Those receiving their first vaccine dose will be given the opportunity to go up to the 86th floor outdoor deck and enjoy the view.
“Our historic vaccination campaign deserves a soaring site,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Dave A. Chokshi. “Vaccination has been uplifting to our city and so it is entirely fitting that vaccines be offered more than 1,000-feet above the ground.”
“The Empire State Building continues to make history as we partner with the City of New York on the administration of COVID-19 vaccines from our 80th floor,” said Jean-Yves Ghazi, president of the Empire State Building Observatory. “We are proud to welcome guests as they receive their vaccines with sweeping city views and celebrate with a visit to our recently reimagined Empire State Building Observatory Experience.”
