Statement From Mayor Bill de Blasio on the Passing of John Doar

November 12, 2014

"John Doar spent his life standing up for justice and defending the civil rights of all Americans. From spearheading national efforts to end segregation in the South and playing a key role in the investigation of the Watergate scandal, to successfully prosecuting some of the most egregious cases of murder of civil rights activists in the 1960s, John always stood on the right side of history. He may have left us now, but his impressive legacy endures-a lifetime of achievement that will continue to inspire us for years to come. I know his family is proud. "
