Statements from Mayor Bill de Blasio and Counsel to the Mayor Maya Wiley

June 29, 2016

The de Blasio administration announced today that Counsel to the Mayor Maya Wiley will depart City service on July 15 to begin as Chair of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, and as Henry Cohen Professor for Management and Urban Policy and Senior Vice President for Social Justice at The New School:

Statement from Mayor Bill de Blasio:

“I am deeply grateful to Maya Wiley for her dedicated service on behalf of this administration. From her advocacy for minority and women-owned businesses to her expansion of broadband access for low-income neighborhoods, Maya has played a foundational role in many of this administration’s most significant accomplishments. Maya oversaw key initiatives that are helping improve New Yorkers’ lives each day, including launching the Commission on Gender Equity and strengthening the Commission on Human Rights. Maya is a compassionate and brilliant attorney, and she has been a strong asset to Chirlane and me since Day One. I look forward to working with her as Chair of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, where I know she will continue working as a champion of justice and public safety. On behalf of City Hall and the people of New York City, I want to thank Maya for her service and congratulate her on her new roles at the CCRB and at The New School.”

Statement from Maya Wiley:

“I’m grateful to the Mayor for the privilege of serving him and this city I love as his Counsel, and for all that we've accomplished to improve broadband access, expand contracts for women and minority-owned businesses, and increase women's leadership roles. I’m excited to begin as chair of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, an essential City institution that plays a critical role in providing fair, ethical and objective investigations.”
