August 31, 2015

The de Blasio administration announced today that Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Lilliam Barrios-Paoli will depart City service at the end of September, and that she has accepted the appointment to serve as Chairperson of the Board of the Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC).

Statement from Mayor Bill de Blasio:

“I am extremely grateful to Deputy Mayor Barrios-Paoli for her service during the first 20 months of my administration. Her experience in government and devotion to social services are unparalleled, and she will be dearly missed at City Hall. Lilliam is an extraordinary public servant. She oversaw the implementation of new social programs that are improving the lives of thousands of New Yorkers, including the development of rental assistance programs for the homeless, an unprecedented training institute for child welfare workers, an ambitious plan to expand community health care, and helped with the historic expansion of after-school programs. On behalf of myself, my administration and all New Yorkers, I thank Lilliam for her great service, and look forward to working with her in her new role – she will bring tremendous leadership to HHC, and the many people served by our public hospitals.”

Statement from Deputy Mayor Lilliam Barrios-Paoli:

“I am honored to have served in the de Blasio administration, and thank the Mayor for the opportunity to be part of his extraordinary team. I also thank my colleagues, my dedicated team at City Hall, Commissioners and agency staff for their excellent work and commitment, and for their support during my tenure. I am excited for this new phase, and looking forward to joining and chairing the HHC Board.”
