Statement From Mayor Bill de Blasio on The Passing of Jacqueline Berrien

November 10, 2015

“Jacqueline Berrien dedicated her life to tirelessly fighting on behalf of the disenfranchised and underrepresented, and throughout her career, she stood up for the rights of those who most needed a champion. Jacqueline’s long history as a civil rights lawyer and her leadership at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission have been invaluable to women, people of color, and other groups who have faced discrimination in this country. Losing Jacqueline means losing a hero, leader, and role model, both for her fellow Brooklynites and New Yorkers and for people across the country.”
