City Hall Teams Up With Urban Justice Center's Street Vendor Project For #Noshthevote To Help More New Yorkers Register to Vote in November Election

October 11, 2016

More than two million eligible New Yorkers remain unregistered to vote ahead of Friday’s voter registration deadline; volunteers stationed across five boroughs today to raise awareness and register eligible voters

NEW YORK—The de Blasio Administration is teaming up with the Urban Justice Center’s Street Vendor Project for #NoshTheVote, a voter registration drive taking place in all five boroughs between 11 AM and 4 PM today to help register more New Yorkers and raise awareness that there is still time to register to vote in the November 8 election. Twelve food trucks across the five boroughs will be equipped with voter registration forms, and on-site volunteers will help New Yorkers register in time for the Friday, October 14 deadline.

“We are fighting for every vote to count,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “We’re working with some of NYC's food trucks and street carts to serve up delicious food and voter registration forms. If we want a fairer and better country, we have to make sure every New Yorker who can vote does vote.”

"Vendors are hard at work every day, in neighborhoods across the city, serving up food to their loyal customers. They are proud to take this one day to help increase voter participation and help Mayor de Blasio #NoshTheVote,” said Sean Basinski, Director of the Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center.

There are two million eligible voters still unregistered in New York City. This non-partisan voter drive will provide registration forms in English and Spanish at 12 food trucks across the five boroughs. Voters are also able to register by visiting voting.nyc through Friday, October 14.

Voters can access registration forms in a total of 16 languages at www.nyccfb.info, including 11 languages recently added by Mayor de Blasio and the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. In addition to forms in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Bangla, voters can now register in Russian, Urdu, Haitian Creole, French, Arabic, Albanian, Greek, Italian, Polish, Tagalog and Yiddish.

The #NoshTheVote campaign is inspired by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s “GuacTheVote” voter registration drive at taco trucks across the U.S.
