City Builds Out $900 Million Dollar Stockpile Ahead of Second Wave

Over 150 million pieces of PPE on reserve for healthcare facilities and frontline workers citywide

NEW YORK—Mayor Bill de Blasio today announced that the City stockpile has now amassed over 150 million pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This comes after the City announced its plan to create and maintain a 90-day stockpile of  PPE earlier this year. 

"A second wave is at our doorstep, and we're taking zero chances on preparedness," said Mayor Bill de Blasio. "New York City has stepped up so our frontline heroes and healthcare workers will have what they need to save lives.” 

After a months-long effort, the City now has the following amounts of PPE on hand.

30,413,300 Nitrile Gloves
948,050 Goggles

The City's stockpile is an added level of security for healthcare providers across the city, including hospitals, nursing homes, congregate care settings, funeral homes, primary care providers, uniformed emergency services providers, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and others.  Providers can order from it to meet their COVID-19 related needs and generally receive PPE within one business day. Hospitals and nursing homes are required to maintain their own 90- and 60-day stockpiles respectively by State Executive Order.
