“Close to Home” Young Women Learn How to Dress for Success

On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, thirty-five young women in our “Close to Home” program learned the importance of personal branding. The young women participated in a workshop titled “Young Women in Business,” organized by The Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) at ACS. The workshop, led by presenter Bria Brim, taught the young women how to tweak their outfit into a more professional look.

During the workshop, the young women learned how to upgrade their wardrobe by adding a simple staple piece, such as a blazer or necklace. Ms. Brim had a few of the girls try on a blazer over their clothing, which instantly transformed their wardrobe into business casual attire. Brim said, “What makes me feel empowered? Self care…If my dream is to be [one of] Forbes’ most powerful women…my first impressions are important.”

At the end of the informative and inspiring workshop, each young lady received a Passion Planner and was shown how to use it as a tool to keep track of her personal goals beyond the workshop.
