Freya Rigterink

Freya has spent the past two years serving and Chief of Staff to the First Deputy Mayor, where she focused on public safety, criminal justice, and the City's pandemic response. Prior to that, Freya served the Senior Advisor for Criminal Justice to the First Deputy Mayor, focusing on the plan to close the jails on Rikers Island and moving juveniles off of Rikers Island as part of Raise the Age. Before joining the mayor's office, Freya worked for the City of Chicago as an Assistant Inspector General, co-founded a start-up focused on expanding educational opportunities for incarcerated people, and worked at the New York City Council. She holds a BA from Wesleyan University and a JD from Northwestern University.
