Tino Hernandez

Tino Hernandez served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc., from December 18, 2008 through July 2018. In this role, Mr. Hernandez was responsible for the administration of one of the largest non-profit providers of community-based substance use treatment services in New York State. Mr. Hernandez is a member of the Governor’s Behavioral Health Services Advisory Council. He was past President of the Coalition of Behavioral Health Agencies and was on the board of directors of the Legal Action Center. He was a mayoral appointee to the City of New York’s Panel for Educational Policy and served as its Chairman. He also served on the boards of the Teacher’s Retirement System and the Board of Education Retirement System. Prior to joining Samaritan Daytop Village, Mr. Hernandez was the second longest serving Chairman of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Mr. Hernandez previously served as Commissioner of the NYC Department of Juvenile Justice, Chief of Staff to the Deputy Mayor for Education and Human Services, Deputy Commissioner for Adult Services at the NYC Department of Homeless Services, and Assistant Commissioner for HIV Program Services at the City’s Health Department.
