Homeowner

Homeowners Night
Every Tuesday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

If you are a homeowner, tenant, small business owner or building manager, we encourage you to visit your local borough office where Department of Buildings staff can answer your questions and provide the information you need to:

  • Plan for a home renovation or construction project

  • Address an open violation on your property

  • Obtain more information and records about a property

  • Use our online resources including DOB NOW and the Buildings Information System (BIS)

Permits, construction codes, zoning regulations, sign offs, certificates of occupancy, place of assembly, equipment installations, violations and civil penalties are just a few of the things we can assist you with.

Our plan examiners, inspectors and staff are here to help you build and live safely in New York City – no appointment needed.

Hiring a Professional

Safe construction begins when qualified and experienced professionals are hired. Knowing a professional’s disciplinary and voluntary license surrender record can help determine if they are qualified to safely complete construction work. Anyone hiring a construction professional is encouraged to check both their disciplinary and voluntary surrender records, as well as current license status using our Know Your Construction Professional Directory.
