2020 Census Kick-Off to Our Future: Events Line-Up

NEW YORK, N.Y. – With President Trump cutting the census count by one month to depress responses among Black, Brown, and immigrant communities, NYC Census 2020’s multi-borough “Countdown to our Future” campaign is currently engaging in approximately 100 events to promote the census and provide census form assistance in a multitude of languages. Outreach includes a new “Count The Heroes” campaign, which aims to boost response rates among the healthcare workers who have kept New York safe and functioning throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Media must RSVP to Sona Rai at srai@census.nyc.gov to attend and cover select public events.

Throughout the campaign, New Yorkers will also participate in the “Battle of the Boroughs” challenge. 50 lucky winners who complete the census online during the contest period will win a $200 gift certificate to a restaurant of their choice. A total of $10,000 in gift certificates are being generously donated by the United Way of New York City, and 25 city restaurants are participating through the City’s partnership with the NYC Hospitality Alliance. The contest provides an attractive incentive for New Yorkers to complete the census, and is a demonstration of support for the city’s restaurant industry. New Yorkers can register to enter at nyc.gov/boroughbattle. The contest, and the outdoor “Census Kick-Off to Our Future” campaign, ends on Wednesday, September 30, currently the last day to complete the 2020 Census.

New Yorkers can sign up to volunteer to “get out the count” at nyc.gov/GOTC.
