Volunteers are an important part of building community engagement, and we believe in developing volunteers into community leaders that are equipped with the skills to promote civic participation in a way that is responsive to the needs of our city’s diverse communities.
Our volunteers play an integral role in promoting and facilitating the Commission’s initiatives through education and outreach that connect New Yorkers to civic opportunities. We welcome you to explore the volunteer opportunities available:
Participatory Budgeting Digital Outreach Coordinator: Responsibilities include leading the smaller group of PB digital volunteers, scheduling check-ins with volunteers, collecting information and surveys from volunteers and reporting back to the Commission with findings.
Participatory Budgeting Digital Volunteers: Responsibilities for this role include assisting the agency with user testing feedback. The Commission launched an open source digital platform to engage and connect New Yorkers to civic opportunities – we are looking for volunteers from diverse backgrounds (seniors, people with disabilities, LEP individuals) to test out the platform’s first modules to ensure that the online is tool is accessible and user friendly.
Language Assistance Program Outreach Volunteer: Volunteers have the opportunity of conducting community outreach, in the form of phone banking, increasing accessibility of digital flyers and content, and supporting a NYCCEC text-info line, to bring awareness of language assistance services. This work may include participating in virtual days of action prior to election cycles, which consists of targeted virtual community canvassing to inform New Yorkers of multilingual resources that are available.
NYC CEC Volunteer Leader: The volunteer leader will act in a convening and training capacity. Volunteer leaders will also be trained on how to be ambassadors for the Civic Engagement Commission and manage/ coordinate NYCCEC volunteers.
Poll Site Language Assistance Runner: Volunteer Runners work with the Central CEC team to coordinate delivery of essential poll site materials for sites that experience high voter participation and require additional materials. Runners are essential to troubleshooting material needs for the success of the program.
Poll Site Language Assistance Supervisor: Volunteer Supervisors work with the Central CEC team to support the needs of Poll Site interpreters during election day. Supervisors troubleshoot poll site material needs, serve as point of contact for interpreters, mitigate on site issues, and report poll site data usage to the CEC central team.
