Our volunteers play an integral role in promoting and facilitating the Commission’s initiatives through education and outreach that connect New Yorkers to civic opportunities. We welcome you to explore the volunteer opportunities available:
Participatory Budgeting Outreach Volunteer: Volunteers participate in community needs assessments to determine (through canvassing, phone-banking, and digital outreach) what the most pressing needs of communities in New York City are. These responses will form the basis of creative project proposals for New Yorkers to vote on and fund. Later in the participatory budgeting cycle, volunteers will also be conducting Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts to ensure community members are included in the project voting phase as well.
Language Assistance Program Outreach Volunteer (3 hours a week): Volunteers conduct community outreach, in the form of phone banking, increasing accessibility of digital flyers, and supporting a NYCCEC text-info line, to bring awareness of language assistance services. This work may include participating in virtual days of action prior to election cycles, which consists of targeted virtual community canvassing to inform New Yorkers of multilingual resources that are available.
NYC CEC Volunteer Leader (8 hours a week) The volunteer leader will act in a convening and training capacity. Volunteer leaders will also be trained on how to be ambassadors for the Civic Engagement Commission and manage/ coordinate NYCCEC volunteers.
Please note that you must be at least 18 years of age to volunteer.
