Information for Employers: NYC Temporary Schedule Change Law

The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) enforces NYC’s Temporary Schedule Change Law, which took effect July 18, 2018. Under the law, covered employees have a right to temporary changes to their work schedule for certain “personal events.”

Notice of Employee Right

Employers must post the notice “You Have a Right to Temporary Changes to Your Work Schedule” where employees can easily see it at each NYC workplace. Employers must post this notice in English and in any language that is the primary language of at least 5 percent of the workers at a workplace if the translation is available on this web page. Local Law 146 of 2023

As of March 4, 2024, employers must distribute materials containing information related to the Law to their employees in both electronic and print format. Employers may comply with this requirement by providing each employee a printed copy of the multilingual "Know Your Rights at Work" poster and sending each employee a link to the Workers’ Bill of Rights webpage by text or email.
