Leasing is responsible for identifying and leasing private space for City agency operations on behalf of the City. Leasing’s objective is to negotiate timely, cost-effective leases that satisfy the client agency’s requirements, while conforming to the City’s requirements, policies and procedures. This work is accomplished by in-house staff or by the tenant representative brokers with whom DCAS has contracted. The City has a portfolio of approximately 450 leases for City agencies in privately owned properties totaling over 22 million square feet. Staff are responsible for all aspects of administering these agreements including renewals, the intake and review of new requests, and ensuring compliance with lease terms.
The leasing process begins when a City agency lease is three years from expiration and/or an agency has submitted a new space request within the City’s request platform. From that point the leasing team assigns a lease negotiator who will begin the leasing process through lease signing.
