Industry Leaders Roundtable

We value transparency and information exchange at DDC. The Industry Leaders Roundtable includes representatives from the leading industry organizations who meet with the Commissioner and DDC senior staff on a quarterly basis to discuss issues pertinent to their respective members. The ACECNY, the AIANY, the NY Building Congress, the BTEA and the GCA serve as a sounding board and a pathway to effectively communicate with our industry partners.

ACECNY
The American Council of Engineering Companies New York (ACECNY) is a coalition of almost 300 firms representing every discipline of engineering related to the built environment and affiliated companies. With a mission to promote the business interest of member firms, the ACECNY advocates, educates, and provides networking opportunities. DDC is proud of its longstanding relationship with the ACECNY. The Deputy Commissioner for Infrastructure has served as a judge for the ACECNY Engineering Excellence Awards and the DDC has been a featured speaker at the Metro Scholarship Luncheon. Finally, DDC works closely with the ACECNY DDC Committee to share information and best practices.

AIANY
The American Institute of Architects New York (AIANY) is dedicated to three goals: design excellence, public outreach, and professional development which complement DDC’s priority of functionality, quality, and excellence in design in the public realm.  DDC collaborates with AIANY to ensure the design community is kept abreast of the relevant issues.

DDC’s Chief Architect is very active in the AIA at the national, state, and local levels, organizing the AIANYS Quad Conference panel of women to discuss the urban agenda for the cities of Hoboken, Philadelphia, New Haven and New York City. At AIA National, the Chief Architect participated in a day-long workshop with Federal, State and Municipal entities entitled “Architect as Builder.” The Chief Architect also serves on the inaugural panel for AIANY’s new initiative focused on civic leadership designed to engage young people to get involved and participate in government and lend their expertise to create more equitable, sustainable, resilient and healthy cities.

BTEA
The BTEA is the construction contractor's unified advocate for construction safety standards, professional development, government advocacy, public relations and fostering communication between public officials, public and private owners, labor and the public. Realizing that a construction industry is essential to the vibrant future of New York City, its activities are dedicated to a building environment meeting the highest of environmental standards, integrity, cost efficiency, productivity and value that contributes to improving the quality of life in New York City.

GCANY
With 250 members, the General Contractors Association of New York (GCANY) represents the heavy civil construction industry who build the infrastructure of New York City.   The Office of Diversity and Industry Relations works very closely with the GCANY to make sure there exists clear lines of communication with its constituency.  The Executive Director of the GCANY is a member of the Industry Leaders Roundtable.  We have engaged the Executive Director whenever there exists policy decisions that may impact the members, including the joint-bidding process as well as the pedestrian ramp program.

New York Building Congress
On behalf of more than 450 constituent organizations comprising more than 250,000 skilled tradespeople and professionals, the New York Building Congress (Building Congress) supports public policy, promotes productive capital spending, encourages public/private partnerships, and evaluates the implementation of major government projects. To foster relationships and collaboration, the Building Congress sponsors consensus-building activities and encourages a free exchange of ideas among leaders of industry associations, businesses, and the public sector. In that vein, DDC collaborates with the Building Congress to engage its members to consider working on DDC projects. In 2018, the DDC commissioner addressed the Building Congress Public Building Committee and was a featured panelist at the Building Congress Industry Breakfast.

Meet-and-Greets

At DDC, we believe a transparent relationship with our industry partners is essential to creating a robust procurement environment. Open Houses

Twice a year firms of all sizes participate in our open house to learn about working with us and our project pipeline.  The Contractors Open House and the Consultants Open House allow the agency to share its project pipeline and highlight new contract processes and procedures.
