Ribbon Cutting: MoMA PS1 Entry Kiosk

February 6, 2012

In February, Deputy Commissioner Resnick and other city officials opened the new entrance, ticketing and information kiosk for PS1 in Queens. The exterior shape of the new addition is distinguished by its block-like mass and concrete canopy. Its swinging glass doors open into the minimal, utilitarian space. Inside, museum-goers pay at new ticketing counters before moving toward a single, large glass door which ushers patrons into the courtyard. The building, a combination of old and new concrete, is lit through clerestories on the north side as well as openings in the concrete ceiling. The simplicity of the interior is meant to highlight artwork by featured artists. In addition, a light sculpture, designed by Leo Villereal, is mounted on the exterior walls and consists of a thin line of programmable LED lights.
