Long Island City, NY – Commissioner Feniosky Peña-Mora of the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) announced today that Anuraag R. Sharma, MSCIS, has been named Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the agency. As CIO, Mr. Sharma will oversee all of the agency’s computer systems and information technology infrastructure, including the applications that track the bids, budgets, contracts, change orders, payments, procurement, payroll, and progress for over 1,450 ongoing infrastructure and public building projects citywide.

“Anuraag brings to DDC the experience and knowledge to lead an organization that is very technically oriented into the future,” said Commissioner Peña-Mora. “We will look toward him to fully modernize and expand the agency’s IT infrastructure, stay abreast of emerging technologies, and bring improvements that will help our staff manage public projects more effectively and more efficiently. We are very pleased to welcome Anuraag to DDC.”

“My goal is to provide DDC staff with best-in-class Information Technology services and products so that our project management groups and delivery teams get the most business value, either in the office or when they’re mobile and in the field,” said Mr. Sharma. “That will facilitate the optimal working environment as they collaborate with the hundreds of private sector contractors and consultants DDC works with every day.”

Mr. Sharma holds a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Southern New Hampshire University and a Bachelors in Electronics Engineering from Poona University in his native India. He was most recently Chief Information Officer and Associate Commissioner at the New York City Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD), where he introduced project management and quality assurance practices and improved key network architecture components with an emphasis on cloud infrastructure and IT security. At DYCD, Mr. Sharma also supervised a reorganization and expansion of the IT department, securing additional resources while successfully managing the relocation of the agency to three separate downtown Manhattan locations.

Prior to his work at DYCD, Mr. Sharma was Assistant Commissioner in the Division of Informatics and Information Technology at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), where he started as a Director in 2004. At DOHMH, Mr. Sharma led all aspects of IT delivery and project implementation, including steps to ensure the long-term sustainability of the agency’s enterprise systems. He supervised teams responsible for quality assurance, application support, and product management, and oversaw a portfolio of 40-50 simultaneous IT projects both in-house and through outside vendors. Before working for the City of New York. Mr. Sharma held IT positions with various organizations and companies including the US Small Business Administration, Automation Resources Corporation, Stellex Monitor Aerospace, Concero, Solid State Computers Pvt Ltd., and Blue Dart Express Ltd.
