(Long Island City, NY – April 15, 2019) Commissioner Lorraine Grillo of the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) announced today that a total of eight DDC projects in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx have been recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) with awards for engineering excellence. The awards were presented on April 13, at the ACEC New York 2019 Engineering Excellence Gala at the Hilton Midtown in Manhattan.

For over 50 years ACEC New York has presented the Engineering Excellence Awards to honor design achievements of superior skill and ingenuity. More than 60 consultant firms submit entries each year for consideration, which are then judged by an expert committee on criteria including “project complexity, innovation and value to society.”

Two DDC projects received the organization’s highest Diamond Award, including:

  • Development and Testing of NYC’s Climate Change Resiliency Design Guidelines (Dewberry Engineers, Inc.)
  • Reconstruction of the Ninth Avenue/Gansevoort Area (AECOM)
Two DDC projects received the next highest Platinum Award:
  • Design of Green Infrastructure for the Newtown Creek CSO Tributary Area (Dewberry Engineers, Inc.)
  • Myrtle Avenue Plaza (AECOM)
Four DDC projects received Gold Awards:
  • Corona Plaza (NV5)
  • Reconstruction of Pershing Square West (AECOM)
  • Reconstruction of Grand Concourse Phase IV (AKRF, Inc.)
  • Redesign and Improvements to Jerome Avenue (KS Engineers, P.C.)
“Eight awards in one year from this prestigious organization demonstrates the quality of the projects that DDC builds for New York City,” said Commissioner Grillo. “Each of these projects demonstrates DDC’s commitment to the de Blasio Administration’s goals for equity, resiliency and environmental sustainability. We thank ACEC New York for this recognition.”
