DDC STEAM Initiatives Participates in National Night Out

On August 2nd, 2016, the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) Steam Initiatives joined elected officials and community-based organizations to participate in the 32nd Annual National Night Out event. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio attended the 114th Precinct National Night Out event at Astoria Park.

STEAM Initiatives program coordinators Anthony Martin, Sandrine Fermino, Jillian Ramos, and Tatiana Vargas spoke to community members about DDC's ongoing mission to establish a diverse and inclusive pipeline into the fields of architecture, engineering, and construction for youth in underserved communities. STEAM coordinators distributed information about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education and how parents can help prepare their children’s careers in these fields. Children and adults participated in DDC’s “Wheel of STEAM” game, where community members answered questions related to science, technology, engineering, architecture/art, and mathematics to win prizse.
