Research on the Road: Generating Project Ideas from the Vision Zero Research Agenda
In partnership with with the New York City Vision Zero Data Working Group
The City’s Vision Zero initiatives uses a research agenda (http://www.nyc.gov/html/visionzero/assets/downloads/pdf/vision-zero-research-agenda-2016-04.pdf), in much the same way as does Town+Gown, as a key tool to move its action research program along through the academic year cycles, focusing specifically on roadway safety issues. This event brought together City agency staff involved in Vision Zero with members of the academic community to discuss generating research project ideas and developing them into research projects to support Vision Zero initiatives. The event began with Vision Zero staff discussing available data sets and tools, and then participating academics discussed their analytic approaches and tools. At the rest of the event, academics and practitioners broke into groups to further discuss potential projects, followed by a discussion of a mechanism for post-event networking during the academic year.
