Deputy Commissioner Llambelis attends NY City Councilmember Margaret Chin Swearing in Ceremony

On Friday, January 12^th, DDC Deputy Commissioner Lee Llambelis attended the Swearing in Ceremony of New York City Council Member Margaret Chin. Council Member Chin, who represents Lower Manhattan’s District 1 has been a champion for STEAM Education.

Council Member Chin was welcomed warmly at her swearing in ceremony, celebrated in the City Council Chamber, by family members, friends, elected officials, and community stakeholders. She spoke poignantly about her immigrant experience, having come to New York City as a 9-year-old from China. She learned to speak English, graduated from Bronx High School of Science, and attended City College while working as a community organizer helping to address the needs of immigrants, seniors, low income and working families.

At DDC’s Young Engineer’s Program Showcase at P.S. 126, CM Chin emphasized the importance of science and mathematics as the foundation for “the jobs of the future”.
