Waterbody Advisories Update

December 11, 2019

Please note that temporary sewer discharges to Bergen Basin/Jamaica Bay are not reflected in Current NYC Waterbodies Advisories.

Starting on November 30, 2019, a sewer blockage in a sanitary sewer, located by 150th St & South Conduit Ave, Queens, NY, resulted in an intermittent discharge of untreated sewage to Bergen Basin. DEP personnel have responded to the area with crews and equipment to address the situation. Interim pumps have been deployed to pump around the blockage to convey flow to the Jamaica Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF). However, several pumps continue to be deployed in the community and are pumping into storm sewers to alleviate public health issues on an as needed basis; resulting in an intermittent sewage discharge to Bergen Basin/Jamaica Bay.
