People who are older, frail, have mobility issues, or are isolated are especially vulnerable during emergencies. The Department for the Aging (DFTA) works with New York City Emergency Management and other City agencies to better prepare older New Yorkers.
To better prepare older adults in the community, DFTA also:
Gives preparedness presentations at senior centers, naturally occurring retirement communities (NORCs), churches, and other organizations
Requires emergency plans from senior centers, NORCs, and home-delivered meal and home care providers in DFTA's network
Contributes to the City's planning for and response to emergency situations
