The Shop Healthy NYC! program aims to increase access to healthy food in neighborhoods with high rates of people with obesity. We work with residents, food retailers and food suppliers and distributors in areas with limited access to nutritious foods.
You can encourage local food retailers to provide more healthy offerings, such as fruits and vegetables, 100% whole wheat bread and low-salt canned goods.
The How to Adopt a Shop Guide (PDF) offers tips for working with retailers and increasing community demand for nutritious foods.
One way to show your local retailers that your community wants healthier items is by getting your neighbors to fill out Shop Healthy NYC! Postcards (PDF) [Español] that you can deliver to retailers. To get these postcards by mail, call 311 and ask for "Shop Healthy postcards."
