PlaySure Network for HIV Prevention

COVID-19 Update

New Yorkers must stay home and minimize contact with other people to reduce the spread of COVID-19 disease. You should wear a face covering when you need to be outside your home and cannot maintain at least six feet of distance from other people. A face covering is any well-secured paper or cloth (like a bandana or scarf) that covers your nose and mouth. Avoid visiting a clinic or hospital unless you are having a medical emergency. Some providers are offering remote visits via telephone or video conference for routine or non-urgent care.

Emergency PEP

  • Stay home and call the 24/7 NYC PEP Hotline at 844-3-PEPNYC (844-373-7692) to start PEP.

HIV Treatment

  • Call or email your provider if you need to refill your HIV prescription or have questions about your treatment.

STI Testing

  • Stay home and skip your regularly scheduled visit for HIV and STI testing.
  • Call your health care provider or use your clinic’s online portal if you have symptoms or were exposed to an STI. Your provider may be able to prescribe oral treatment based on your symptoms or exposure without having you visit the clinic.
  • Call the NYC Sexual Health Clinic Hotline if you do not have a health care provider.

Provider Resources

In 2016, clinical and non-clinical providers in NYC partnered to create the PlaySure Network for HIV prevention. Medical clinics and front-line community partners work together in the network to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to services, such as HIV testing, HIV treatment, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). These services are the pillars of the State’s and City’s plan to End the Epidemic (EtE).

Goals

PlaySure Network members work collaboratively to:

  • Promote patient-specific approaches to sexual health and HIV prevention.
  • Increase access to PrEP and PEP for people (especially those without insurance) who may be exposed to HIV — including gay and bisexual men, transgender people, and people who have a partner living with HIV.
  • Link people who test positive for HIV, or those who are HIV-positive and out of care, to HIV care services so they can get treated and become virally suppressed.

Partners

The PlaySure Network is comprised of NYC-supported HIV testing sites, community-based organizations (CBOs), and clinics that offer PrEP and PEP.

NYC PEP Hotline

Patients can call the NYC PEP Hotline at (844) 3-PEPNYC (844-373-7692) 24/7 for help getting started on PEP right away. Operators will connect patients with a clinic that has expertise in providing PEP. For after-hour calls, the hotline can help patients get a PEP starter pack through a pharmacy and connect them with a clinic for the remainder of their PEP regimen.

Web Portals

  • New York Knows/PlaySure Directory is an internal online resource directory tool to promote interagency collaboration and facilitate linkages to prevention and care, as well as to social services.
  • Basecamp is an online information-sharing platform for NYC providers who are developing or implementing PrEP programs.
  • PrEP/PEP Providers on the NYC Health Map is an online resource for New Yorkers to locate experienced PrEP and PEP providers in the city.
