National Institute on Out of School Time Afterschool Matters Practitioner Fellowship Program

The National Afterschool Matters (NASM) Practitioner Fellowship is a new model developed by the NIOST and NWP partnership, and began in the fall of 2015. Up to fifteen experienced DYCD afterschool practitioners will have the opportunity to engage in a yearlong intensive inquiry-based reflective learning process.

Offered through a partnership between DYCD, the National Institute on Out of School Time (NIOST), and the NYC Writing Project, this unique professional development model recognizes the expertise of practitioners and seeks to leverage their knowledge and experience to influence the afterschool field. Those selected for this fellowship become part of a community of practitioners, learn strategies to engage in program reflection and inquiry to improve programs and practice; engage in leadership activities to disseminate program improvement strategies, and write an inquiry paper for potential publication in professional journals.

Participants that successfully complete the program can earn a $500 stipend.
