Learn & Earn (Formerly the In-School Youth Program) is a career exploration and academic support program for high school juniors and seniors.  The program provides participants with academic support, college application assistance, work readiness training, service learning and leadership activities, as well as a paid six-week summer internship.  Learn & Earn is for high school juniors and seniors who meet certain eligibility requirements.

  • September 1st - 30th

Program Requirements

  • Age 16 - 21
  • NYC high school juniors and seniors
  • Must meet income and other eligibility criteria
  • Must be a New York City resident

LEARN & EARN ELIGIBILITY 

Learn & Earn providers assist applicants in determining eligibility for their programs.

A.  14-21 years old at eligibility determination, and

B.  Attending or enrolled in the Junior or Senior Year of Secondary education.

C.  Low-Income, AND 

D.   At least one of the following apply

  1. Deficient in Basic Literacy Skills; or 
  2. Homeless, Runaway; or
  3. In foster care or aged out of foster care; or
  4. Pregnant/Parenting; or
  5. Offender; or
  6. Has a disability; or
  7. An English language learner who is deficient in Basic Literacy Skills 
  8. Requires additional assistance 

Low Income Definition

Family income at or below 100% of poverty line or 70% lower living standard.

OR

Income test not required if the participant meets one of the following criteria:

  1. Participant receives or is a member of a family that receives (currently or in

the past six months) one of the following: TANF, SNAP, SSI, or other public assistance; or

  1. Is a Foster Child; or
  2. Is Homeless; or
  3. Runaway 
  4. Disabled 
  5. Pregnant/Youth Parent 
  6. Offender 
  7. Lives in a high poverty census tract.

 

Work Status: Authorized to work in U.S. 

Selective Service: If male,  Selective Registration
