Step It Up NYC
DYCD’s Step It Up NYC initiative began in 2009 as a youth engagement program focused on fusing the passion to move with the drive to create change. The aim of the initiative is to leverage the performing arts to build community leadership capacity in young people.
Coming soon, NYC youth will be able to join DYCD and our partners on Zoom for dance and step classes at home! For now, check out videos from the past ten years of Step It Up NYC on YouTube
, and follow #stepitupnyc
on Instagram to see what youth across the City have been working on in their own communities.
A family recipe is like a time machine. One taste instantly transports a person back to a time and place in their life when food brought families together. It could have been a picnic, a holiday celebration, or a family dinner. These tiny time machines not only provide information on the foods a family has enjoyed for generations, but they also create memories for generations to come.
Enter our Recipe Rescue
competition to take your favorite family recipe and make it healthier! Healthy eating benefits everyone – affecting our energy and our moods, improving our minds, and helping us maintain a healthy weight. NYC youth and their families can work together to submit their updated recipes and host their own cooking demonstrations on DYCD’s IGTV and our YouTube page. You might even have your recipe published in our citywide cookbook!
Poetry & Spoken Word
If you are a poet or spoken word artist who wants to make their voice heard, join Urban Word NYC for a series of virtual workshops and slams. NYC youth can submit original work on topics that matter to you, and DYCD will amplify your voice on our social media platforms.
Want to showcase your art skills, or learn more about styles like digital art and comic books? We’re launching art contests with a different theme each week.
You can also join the DYCD Heroes Project for an online comic book club every Thursday from April 16-May 21.
DYCD Film Festival
