For Youth, Adults, Families & Seniors

DYCD at Home

While we are all staying home to stop the spread of coronavirus, youth and families across NYC can stay connected to DYCD – we are bringing dance, music, art, filmmaking, and more right to you! Check out the opportunities below, sign up for the activities that interest you, and text (347) 349-4361 to get updates directly to your phone. You can also follow us on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter at @NYCyouth for announcements via social media.

Step It Up NYC

DYCD’s Step It Up NYC initiative began in 2009 as a youth engagement program focused on fusing the passion to move with the drive to create change. The aim of the initiative is to leverage the performing arts to build community leadership capacity in young people.

Check out videos from the past ten years of Step It Up NYC on YouTube, and follow #stepitupnyc on Instagram to see what youth across the City have been working on in their own communities.  This year’s theme is Democracy in Action 2020 where performers are encouraged to use their voice and creativity to protect the health of our democracy.

Stay tuned for ways to get involved in Step it Up NYC.

Poetry & Spoken Word

If you are a poet or spoken word artist who wants to make their voice heard, join Urban Word NYC for a series of virtual workshops and slams. NYC youth can submit original work on topics that matter to you, and DYCD will amplify your voice on our social media platforms.

Art Activities

Want to showcase your art skills, or learn more about styles like digital art and comic books? We’re launching art contests with a different theme each week.

DYCD Film Festival

Calling all future award-winning filmmakers! How much do you like making movies? Want your movie screened live for thousands of people across NYC? The DYCD Film Festival is currently accepting submissions for our virtual event this summer, which will feature some of the top films produced by young people across the city. We want to hear your stories as long as you still want to tell them! Storytelling and creating community are more important now than they’ve ever been.
Share your stories with us!

To support your filmmaking process, we’ve partnered with our producing team, Show the Good, and enlisted a few filmmaking professionals to share some exclusive tricks and tips on how to make the best short films possible! Click here to view the #DYCDAtHome filmmaking series and don’t forget to share your films by June 14th.

To enter, visit Film Freeway, and check out some of the best films from last year on our YouTube.
