NYC Emergency Management invites New York City high school students to participate in the inaugural HERricane NYC program, designed to encourage young womxn* in grades 9 through 12 to pursue careers and leadership roles in emergency management. The program consists of a weeklong session from April 13, 2020 to April 17, 2020 that will be hosted at NYC Emergency Management's headquarters in Brooklyn. NYC Emergency Management intends to select up to 20 students to participate in the 2020 program.
There is no cost for students to participate in the program.
Upon the conclusion of the program, participants will have the option to attend monthly "aftermath" sessions throughout the remainder of the year.
*NYC Emergency Management uses the term “womxn” to be inclusive of all women, including transgender and cisgender women, and non-binary people. NYC Emergency Management encourages all womxn to apply for the program.
The program is open to womxn in grades 9-12 that live in and are enrolled in high school in the five boroughs.
Interested students can apply by submitting this application form and the student’s answers to the essay questions listed below. The application form should be signed by the student and, if the student is under 18 years of age, the application form must be signed by the student's parent/guardian. All entries must be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line "HERricane NYC." All entries must be submitted by March 6, 2020.
