July 30, 2019 — It only takes one storm. That is the reminder Nelson Vaz, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service, emphasizes on the latest episode of “Prep Talk.” As the Atlantic hurricane season moves into its peak, Vaz reminds listeners of important steps to prepare, make a plan, know your risks, and stay informed.

“It’s basically a year-round effort in terms of preparing. At the National Weather Service, just like NYC Emergency Management, our mission is protecting life and property. We do it through our forecast – an accurate and timely forecast – and then providing that information,” Vaz said.

In the episode, Vaz also discusses preparedness education, emphasizing the importance of teaching individuals about hazards and impacts associated with any emergency. You can listen to the latest episode on SoundCloud, iTunes, and Spreaker.
