Write down short phrases that can help you in an emergency. Prewritten cards or text messages can help you share information with your support network or emergency responders during a stressful or uncomfortable situation. You may not have much time to get your message across.
Ready New York: My Emergency Plan is a workbook designed to assist New Yorkers with disabilities or access and functional needs create an emergency plan. My Emergency Plan walks users through establishing a support network, capturing important health information, planning for evacuation, and gathering emergency supplies. First responders or caregivers can also use the workbook to help people during an emergency.
In partnership with City University of New York and the NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, NYC Citizen Corps produced a 25-minute episode as part of the "We Are New York" series geared towards English-language learners (ELL). The episode, called "The Storm," focuses on emergency preparedness and access to city resources during emergencies. The episode is also accompanied by various learning materials for beginner and intermediate English-language learners.
