Portable Fire Extinguishers Company Recognition

Description

FFDNY issues company certificates for portable fire extinguisher sales company and portable fire extinguisher servicing company. These two company certifications are valid for a period of one (1) year. 3 RCNY 115-01 Company Certificates set forth the requirements.

FDNY approved Portable Fire Extinguisher Servicing Companies are authorized to sell, lease or service portable fire extinguishers.

FDNY approved Portable Fire Extinguisher Sale Companies are only authorized to sell portable fire extinguishers.

Cost of Certification

Portable Fire Extinguisher Sales Company:
The original application fee for is $105.00. The renewal application fee is $50.00.

Portable Fire Extinguisher Servicing Company:
The original application fee for is $100.00. The renewal application fee is $50.00.

Other Requirements or Special Instructions

  • After an official review of the Servicing Company Application, FDNY will mail a letter of acceptance  and details on how to schedule an inspection with the Portable Fire Extinguishing Unit to receive a Certificate of Approval valid for a period of one (1) year.  Please note inspection fees will apply.
  • After an official review of the Sales company application, FDNY will mail out a letter of approval valid for a period of one (1) year. The company must comply with the Fire Code and New York City Fire Rules to properly sell Portable Fire Extinguishers across the five boroughs.
  • All approved Portable Fire Extinguisher companies must keep FDNY insurance records up to date in order to appear on the Approved List.
  • Fire Department rule 3 RCNY 115-02 Issuance of Proof of Compliance to Company Certificate Holders took effect on June 1, 2018. This rule requires an FDNY issued standardized tag must be attached to the portable fire extinguisher to document the inspection and/or servicing. Only the approved Portable Fire Extinguisher companies are allowed to purchase the standardized tag.

Renewal Process

The company certificate must be renewed annually. A complete company application, all pertinent documents and fees must be submitted for review to renew the company certification. It is highly recommended to submit all required documents for renewal at least four (4) weeks prior to expiration of company’s approval.
