On the second night of Chanukah, Monday, December 3rd, 2018, Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro was joined by the Ner Tamid Society for the FDNY’s third annual Chanukah celebration.
“The traditions of Chanukah have been around for centuries, and together, we are ensuring that this new tradition here will continue in the FDNY for many more years to come,” said Commissioner Nigro.
At the event, FDNY members, elected officials, and community leaders joined together to celebrate the holiday.
Chief of Department James E. Leonard spoke about the importance of fire safety during Chanukah.
“We are using an electric menorah so we can continue to honor the great traditions of the Jewish faith, but we want to do it with an electric menorah to make it safe for everyone,” said Chief Leonard.
