FDNY promotes 74 FDNY members to new ranks

February 28, 2019

On Thursday, February 28, 74 FDNY members were promoted to new ranks in the Department at a ceremony at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.

“Last year, our Firefighters and Fire Officers responded to more than 600,000 emergency incidents; the most ever recorded in FDNY history,” said Commissioner Nigro. “Our new Captains and Lieutenants will be on the front lines, leading our Firefighters at many of these incidents and protecting New Yorkers from fires; while our new Fire Marshals will be there to investigate the most serious fires, providing the critical information needed to help keep our city safe.”

At the ceremony, 20 Lieutenants were promoted to Captain, 30 Firefighters were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, and 24 Firefighters were promoted to Fire Marshal.

"Every time you put on an FDNY uniform you are provided with an opportunity, and the privilege, to set an example for all those under your command," said Chief of Department John Sudnik.

“I love working for the FDNY because of the camaraderie within the Department, and I am honored to continue to serve the people of New York City in any way that I can," said FDNY Captain Craig Crichlow. "I’m looking forward to beginning my work in my new rank, and to educating the younger members of the Department in how to operate safely and effectively."

The newly promoted members will be assigned to various units throughout the city.
