FDNY Hosts Third Annual LGBTQ Pride Month Celebration

June 28, 2018

On Thursday, June 28th, Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro hosted FDNY’s third annual LGBTQ Pride Celebration at the New York City Fire Museum.

“For the third year in a row, the FDNY is celebrating pride month by recognizing individuals dedicated to the progress and representation of the LGBTQ community, including those who bravely serve in the Department,” said Fire Commissioner Nigro. “The FDNY is committed to being a partner with the LGBTQ community, and celebrating the pride and diversity of our city.”

At the event, the Department honored the memory of Fire Marshal and U.S. Air National Guard Major Christopher “Tripp” Zanetis, who died in the line of duty alongside FDNY Lieutenant and U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Christopher J. Raguso in an American military helicopter crash in Iraq on March 15th.

Additional honorees included, FDNY Chaplain Reverend Ann Kansfield; Melissa Sklarz, Director of Development at Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF) and Live Out Loud, a non-profit organization built to inspire LGBTQ youth to live proud.
