Fire Commissioner Nigro Presides Over Promotion Ceremony For 118 Fire and EMS Officers

Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro will preside over a ceremony promoting 118 Fire and EMS Officers on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the FDNY Training Academy on Randall’s Island. Four Deputy Chiefs will be promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief, Six Battalion Chiefs will be promoted to Deputy Chief, 18 Captains will be promoted to Battalion Chief, 20 Lieutenants will be promoted to Captain, 30 Firefighters will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, and 40 EMS members will be promoted to Lieutenant.

Due to COVID-19, this is a closed ceremony with social distancing measures in place for those attending. It can be viewed live on the Department’s website, www.nyc.gov/FDNY

“With nearly 2,000 years of experience, this new group of Chiefs, Captains and Lieutenants have responded to thousands of fires and medical emergencies. They’ve demonstrated their commitment to serve those in need, with no shortage of heroic acts throughout their careers,” said Commissioner Nigro. “In their new roles, they will be leading our Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics – all working towards the same critical mission – protecting this city and saving lives under dangerous conditions.”

These newly promoted members will be assigned to units throughout New York City.
