In 2016, in partnership with the non-profit NYC Kids RISE (NYCKR), the de Blasio administration launched a community-driven universal wealth-building pilot in Queens School District 30. To date, students have over $6.9-million dollars in assets to go toward their college and career training.

Beginning this school year, as part of the City's Juneteenth Economic Justice Plan, every kindergarten student enrolled in an NYC public elementary school (including participating charter schools) automatically receives an NYC Scholarship Account invested in a 529 plan with a $100 seed investment and up to $200 in early rewards. New York will directly confront the generational racial wealth gap and invest $15 million annually. Communities can contribute to groups of these NYC Scholarship Accounts through Community Scholarships as both a targeted and universal platform for community-driven asset-building in every neighborhood. Through this unique public-private-community partnership, government, families, community stakeholders, and private partners can continually invest in the children's accounts as they matriculate.

This holiday season, the Mayor's Fund is partnering with NYC Kids RISE in support of NYC Baby Bonds Community Scholarships. Community Scholarships enable local organizations, private individuals, foundations, and businesses to donate directly to students' educational savings, leveraging local assets to build financial wealth in and with communities that have faced systemic barriers to wealth-building. By contributing to NYC Baby Bonds Community Scholarships, you are investing in the future of New York City's Children.
